Robert C. Egan

From childhood on, Robert Egan showed hunters and jumpers from coast to coast. His riding peak encompassed over three decades during the 40's, 50's, and 60's. As the rider of Miss Budweiser, Sun Beau, and numerous others, he became a member of the National Show Hunter hall of Fame and the Show Jumper Hall of Fame in 1997.

Robert Egan coached riders at major Eastern shows, including Madison Square Garden. He spent his later years coaching, judging, and managing shows in Southwest Michigan.
Robert "Bobby" Egan, a horseman for seven decades, gained early confidence in his skills as an instructor in the United States Cavalry during World War II and became a standout show rider in the Post-War era.
Sun Beau, a 17.1 hh, Canadian-bred gelding, posted many of his biggest wins with Egan in the saddle.
Leaving the service in 1946, Egan worked in California with his father and earned the ride on several noted horses, including Carbon Copy. A smooth and stylish rider, Egan eventually moved on to Cleveland where he took over a string of Jumpers, including Sun Beau. During his lifetime, he established a solid reputation for sportsmanship and for riding and training some of the nation's greatest horses and jumpers. Among the many top-caliber horses he piloted in addition to Sun Beau were Blue Monday, Mr. Deliberate and the great Miss Budweiser.
Robert Egan moved to Southwest Michigan in the 1960's to manage and train out of Laughin' Place Stables in Niles, MI. After several successful years Bob purchased his own property at 2000 Bakertown Road in picturesque Buchanan, MI in the late 1970's. The legacy Mr. Egan began over 50 years ago now lives on with his longtime student and standout rider, Karen Lukkarila.
